The Effects of Social Media on Student Mental Health: Risk Factors & Protective Measures

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

As a community-driven nonprofit specializing in suicide prevention and mental health awareness, we at The Kim Foundation have noticed that the pandemic impacted the mental health of our youth in unprecedented ways.  Through the observation of youth in the community and the research of the impact of social media, we have concluded that there are specific youth risk factors that require attention and youth protective factors that can be implemented to improve the relationship teens and children have with social media.  Participants who attend this session will learn how to:  1.  Recognize at least three risk factors associated with youth usage of social media sites.  2. Explain and implement at least three protective factors to protect and preserve youth mental health regarding social media use.  3. Compare the positive and negative effects of youth social media use.
